Congratulations to I-SCMA Past President Dan Slep on his recent appointment as publisher of The Altoona Mirror in Altoona, Pa.
Slep served as the organization President from 2016 to 2017 followed by a one-year term as Board Chair. Prior to leading I-SCMA, Slep volunteered his time and talents in multiple roles including First and Second Vice President as well as multiple committee roles.
As the recent article on The Mirror’s website explained, Slep has worked at the newspaper for almost fifty years:
Slep, who began at the Mirror in 1972, called his appointment “a childhood dream come true.”
“Growing up, my brothers and I would have frequent visits to the Mirror — then downtown (on Green Avenue) — with our dad and grandfather,” Slep said. “My dad made his rounds, going from department to department, talking to as many employees as possible.
“He reminded us that the people, our employees, are our biggest assets and can make things happen for all of us. Hearing the roar of the press brought great joy and excitement to me, and it still does.”
