Joe NealonSpotlight on the I-SCMA past president, now Board Chair, Joe Nealon from The Times-Tribune

Tell us a little about your current position, how long you have been in the business, and the positions you have held.

I am the Circulation Director at The Scranton Times-Tribune and The Citizens’ Voice since 2007.  I have been very fortunate to work for a family-owned company and grow within the organization. I started in the distribution department in 1988.  In 2004, I moved to Pottsville to become the CD at the Republican Herald and Shamokin News-Item.  I later moved to lead circulation at The Citizens’ Voice in Wilkes-Barre and Standard-Speaker in Hazelton.

What do you enjoy most about your current position?

I enjoy the talented and dedicated people I work with. They are a resilient group who do amazing things every day.   I am grateful to have the opportunity to lead them and watch them be successful.  They are the reason for our department’s success.

What do you find to be the most challenging in this business?

Our industry faces challenges unlike any other.  The shortage of dependable carriers is disappointing and concerning.

What is your go-to activity when not working?

Wait, there is a no-work time?  I am a devoted fan of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Notre Dame Football, and of course my children and their adventures!

What is something about you that others might be surprised to learn?

I’m full of surprises, but one thing that might surprise you more than others is that I once ran a race in pink high heels to cure cancer.

Thank you, Joe for sharing your story with us!
