Spotlight on the 2022-2023 I-SCMA President, Tom Salvo, Regional Audience Director from Lee Enterprises

Tell us a little about your current position, how long you have been in the business, and the positions you have held.

My current position is with Lee Enterprises, Regional Audience Director for New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. I have been in the business for 27 years, starting with The Philadelphia Inquirer as a Relief District Manager, also with Gannett, Operations Director at The News Journal in Delaware, and with Civitas Media, as Circulation Director at the Times Leader in Pennsylvania.

What do you enjoy most about your current position?

The everyday talking to members of Lee Enterprises in all departments, how we can make our life easier as we go through some challenging times. The camaraderie with everyone in the circulation department is what I enjoy the most.

What do you find to be the most challenging in this business?

Keeping employees happy, working long hours, some 7-days per week. I need to make sure they have work-life balance. When you have this, work becomes a better experience.

What is your go-to activity when you are not working?

I am a big New Jersey shore person, love driving on the beach, fishing and just hanging out. I also enjoy golfing.

What is something about you that others might be surprised to learn?

I have a big sports card collection, and I am always looking to add.
